Danish Heritage. Professional Cookware. Since 1956.
From a Small Workshop in Jutland to 50+ Countries.
Scanpan was founded in 1956 in Ryomgaard — a quiet town in eastern Jutland, Denmark. What began as a family-run operation producing aluminum cookware for the Danish market has grown into one of the most respected premium cookware brands in the world.
The company has always operated from a single principle: make fewer things, but make them exceptionally well. This philosophy is reflected in every design decision, every material choice, and every manufacturing process Scanpan has ever adopted.
Unlike virtually every other cookware brand at its price point, Scanpan has never moved production offshore. Every cast aluminum pan is still produced in Denmark using the same Ryomgaard facility, now equipped with state-of-the-art hydraulic casting technology that the company pioneered itself.

Craftsmanship Meets Engineering.
The Squeeze-Casting process is the foundation of every Scanpan cast aluminum pan. Molten recycled aluminum is injected into a precision mold and then compressed under 250 tons of hydraulic pressure. The result is a pan body with zero porosity — no air pockets, no weak points.
This matters because most cookware warps under thermal stress. A warped pan creates hot spots, lifts off induction rings, and eventually becomes unusable. A Scanpan pan produced through squeeze-casting maintains its shape permanently, even after years of daily high-heat use.
After casting, each pan is hand-finished in the Ryomgaard facility. Handles are attached and tested, surfaces are inspected, and the STRATANIUM non-stick coating is applied under controlled conditions. No step in this process is automated away.
Learn About STRATANIUM TechnologyNearly 70 Years of Innovation.
Founded in Ryomgaard
Scanpan is established in the small town of Ryomgaard in Jutland, Denmark. A family-run workshop begins producing aluminum cookware using local craftsmanship and Scandinavian precision.
Pioneering Recycled Aluminum
Long before sustainability became a global trend, Scanpan transitions its entire production to 100% recycled aluminum, dramatically reducing environmental impact without compromising pan quality.
Squeeze-Casting Technology Introduced
Scanpan engineers develop the proprietary squeeze-casting method — applying 250 tons of hydraulic pressure to eliminate air pockets in the aluminum structure, creating a pan that will never warp, buckle, or deform under intense heat.
STRATANIUM Non-Stick Launched
The first generation of the patented STRATANIUM coating is introduced. Unlike spray-applied coatings, STRATANIUM is embedded into the pan surface under pressure, creating a bond strong enough to withstand metal utensils and high-heat searing.
PFOA-Free Production Achieved
Scanpan becomes one of the first major cookware manufacturers to completely eliminate PFOA from its production process — a decision driven by principle, not regulation. Safe for families, safe for the environment.
A Global Benchmark for Premium Cookware
Now sold in more than 50 countries, Scanpan remains headquartered and manufactured in Denmark. Every cast aluminum pan still comes from the same Ryomgaard facility, holding the same standards as the very first pan made in 1956.

Trusted by Chefs Who Cook at the Highest Level.
Professional chefs have two demands of their cookware: performance and durability. A pan used in a commercial kitchen must withstand ten hours of continuous service, metal utensil contact, rapid temperature changes, and industrial dishwashing — every day.
Scanpan is one of the only non-stick cookware brands capable of achieving a proper Maillard reaction — the high-heat browning of proteins and sugars that creates flavor, color, and crust. Most non-stick surfaces require lower temperatures to preserve the coating. STRATANIUM is engineered to perform at professional searing temperatures without degradation.
This same sear-and-deglaze capability makes Scanpan the preferred choice of home cooks who want restaurant results. The ability to build a fond on a non-stick surface and deglaze it with wine or stock is unique to Scanpan in its category.
Four Principles That Have Never Changed.
Uncompromising Quality
Every pan is produced in Denmark under direct quality control. No outsourcing, no shortcuts. The same engineers who design the cookware oversee its production from raw aluminum to finished product.
Environmental Responsibility
Using 100% recycled aluminum means Scanpan avoids the enormous energy cost of mining and refining virgin ore. Sustainability is not a marketing claim — it is the founding operational principle of the company.
Innovation Through Engineering
Scanpan holds patents on both its squeeze-casting aluminum process and its STRATANIUM non-stick coating. The company invests heavily in its own R&D rather than licensing technology from third parties.
The Professional Standard
Scanpan cookware is specified by professional chefs specifically because it achieves what most non-stick surfaces cannot: a proper sear with deep color and crust on meat, fish, and vegetables, followed by effortless deglazing.
Why Scanpan Cookware?
Scanpan cookware consistently ranks among the best non-stick cookware sets available because it combines professional-grade performance with home kitchen safety. The PFOA-free STRATANIUM surface is metal utensil safe, oven safe to 260C, and works on all cooktops including induction. For buyers comparing Scanpan vs All-Clad, Scanpan vs Le Creuset, or Scanpan vs Calphalon, the Danish brand offers a unique combination of non-stick convenience and professional searing capability found nowhere else.
Is Scanpan Worth the Investment?
Scanpan cookware is built to last decades, not years. Cheap non-stick pans degrade in 12-18 months under normal use. A Scanpan Classic, CTX, or HaptIQ pan maintained properly will perform at the same level after ten years as on the day it was purchased. Calculated over a lifetime of use, Scanpan is among the most cost-effective premium cookware investments available. The brand also offers a re-coating service to extend pan life indefinitely.
Where Is Scanpan Made?
All Scanpan cast aluminum cookware is designed and manufactured in Ryomgaard, Denmark. The company has maintained its own production facility in Denmark since its founding in 1956 and has never relocated manufacturing to lower-cost countries. This is the core of the Made in Denmark promise: total quality control, premium materials, and Scandinavian engineering standards applied at every stage of production.
